FRANKLIN, Ind.– Festival Country Indiana’s annual Chalk the Block event returns to downtown Franklin later this month with a special USA 250th category and a special prize for the best chalk art in that category.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at the intersection of Madison Street and Main Street during the Ethos Celebration of the Arts festival. The public will vote for their favorite artwork, and judging will be divided by age groups. Prizes include $250 for the patriotic category, as well as $100, $50 and $25 prizes.
“To celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, we’re offering $250 for the best patriotic chalk art. That is in addition to the numerous other prizes we always give out,” said Kenneth Kosky, executive director of Festival Country Indiana.
All artists, beginners, businesses, and kids are welcome to create a sidewalk chalk masterpiece. The $10 registration fee includes a 3-foot-by 3-foot square. Festival Country must receive the registration form and fee by June 22 to guarantee a spot. However, some spots are expected to be available for "walk-ups" on the day of the event.
