COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety approved a five-year contract renewal with Axon to upgrade law enforcement technology across the city police department.
The contract provides officers with a complete hardware refresh. Columbus Police Department (CPD) Deputy Chief Douglas Martindale presented the agreement, which covers body-worn cameras, in-car camera systems, Tasers, and digital evidence storage.
Under the agreement, the city will receive new body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, and Tasers. Because body camera batteries undergo frequent charge cycles during daily shifts, CPD has scheduled additional body camera hardware updates for 2029 and 2032.
If Axon releases upgraded models during the contract period, the company will automatically supply next-generation equipment. Axon handles hardware disposal directly by recycling internal components from turned-in devices.
