Hope fire crews combat ammo-filled garage fire

Hope, Ind. – The Hope Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire involving a detached garage in the 7600 block of North County Road 1000E on Tuesday, January 20.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions. A large amount of ammunition was stored inside the structure, which began to discharge during the incident. One casing landed on Engine 11, close to the pump operator.

Hope Police Department officers were on the scene first and acted quickly. They safely rescued two dogs from the structure. Neither animal was hurt due to their prompt actions.

No injuries were reported in the blaze; however, the garage was a total loss.
